The First In First Out replenishment method familiar from grocery stores should also be used on home food shelves. It ensures that the products that are bought first and expire are in the foreground in the closet and will be used first.
5 tips for managing food waste at home:
1. Plan a shopping list and check the current offers in advance to avoid impulse purchases.
2. Think about meals in advance, as well as recipe ingredients and standard purchases.
3. Take advantage of the familiar way of smart shelving from grocery stores: make sure that the products that are bought first and expire in the cupboard are on display and will be used first.
4. Collect the so-called red label basket in the kitchen, where you collect products that will soon reach their expiration date.
5. Use leftover ingredients for new dishes by searching for recipes by ingredient name.
