An Oxfam Novib team that provides emergency aid to earthquake victims in Turkey receives relief supplies from the Dutch search and rescue team that was active there last week. USAR.NL will hand over the items to Oxfam Novib in Hatay province on Monday morning.
Minister Liesje Schreinemacher for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation decided on Sunday to transfer the goods to the aid organization. She will pay the costs for the relief supplies so that the USAR team in the Netherlands can replenish the necessary stocks.
Tents, food and water
These include tents and tent heaters, water purification, food and water, generators, fuel, latrines, lighting and rain suits. Oxfam Novib employees can make good use of these items in the aid they provide to the people affected by the earthquake, according to Schreinemacher.
The USAR team will leave the disaster area on Monday. Schreinemacher: ‘I have great respect and am grateful for the efforts of the Dutch rescue workers. In the midst of so much human suffering, they were able to make a difference, rescuing 12 people and a dog, comforting loved ones and helping other rescue teams.”
