In the US, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was seen almost more often than James Cameron’s “Avatar”. Globally, however, “Avatar” remains by a large margin at the top of the most-watched films of all time.
As of February 8, 2022, Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed $749 million in US box offices. The adventure of Peter Parker is about to overtake “Avatar”. The gross of the first release of “Avatar” is $749.8 million. In later years, the film was released theatrically again. This increased revenue to $760 million. However, the new Spidey film is expected to break that mark as well.
It looks different globally
On a global level, however, Spider-Man: No Way Home cannot compete with Avatar. Cameron’s film remains the world’s highest-grossing film of all time, grossing $2.84 billion. While Avengers: Endgame also briefly took the lead, that all changed when Avatar saw a second theatrical release in China in 2021.
Meanwhile, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ranks sixth in the world with gross of $1.2 billion. However, the film has not yet been shown in China, which is the largest box-office takings market. In the race for the most successful film of the corona pandemic, however, the new Spider-Man film made it to first place.
