US: Rapid and strong response as North Korea tests nuclear weapons

US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman has said that if North Korea conducted a nuclear weapons test, there would be a “quick and strong” response from the US and South Korea.

“Any nuclear weapons test would be a complete violation of UN Security Council resolutions,” Sherman told reporters after a meeting with her South Korean counterpart. “Not only South Korea, the US and Japan would react strongly and clearly, I believe the whole world would.”

On Monday, the US and South Korea fired eight missiles from South Korea’s east coast in response to North Korea’s recent missile tests.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said Monday that the expansion of North Korea’s primary nuclear site shows progress.
