US prosecutors want to prosecute son Joe Biden for violating gun law | Abroad

Hunter Biden previously made a deal to avoid prosecution, but he did not keep the agreed terms. Weiss now wants to file charges within a month.

When Hunter Biden bought a firearm in 2018, he did not mention that he was addicted to cocaine. This is considered a serious crime in the United States.

The Attorney General appointed Weiss as a special prosecutor last month to investigate Biden, who is also suspected of tax evasion. He would not have paid all his income tax in 2017 and 2018. According to Republicans, Hunter is abusing his father’s political power for business advantage in China and Ukraine anyway.

Weiss and his co-plaintiffs announced Wednesday that they will file charges against the president’s son in his tax and guns case before Sept. 29.

In July, U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika rejected a proposed plea deal, raising concerns about its legality and the extent of immunity it offered Hunter Biden.

Under that proposed settlement, Hunter Biden would have pleaded guilty to failing to pay taxes on $1.5 million in income between 2017 and 2018 and entered a separate deferred prosecution agreement for illegally possessing a firearm while on drugs.

Democratic strategists hoped that a settlement between Hunter Biden and the prosecution would allow the president to bypass his son’s legal troubles and leave the issue to pre-existing Republican-led investigations in Congress. But a federal judge declined to accept a proposed settlement on Friday. And so Hunter Biden must soon appear.

The eventual lawsuit will certainly make history: the son of a sitting president who must face criminal charges while his father campaigning for re-electionmost likely against Republican Donald Trump, who himself faces at least three upcoming criminal trials.
