US parliament building evacuation over, no threat after all

Evacuation of US parliament building over, no threat after all

The US parliament building was evacuated Wednesday evening (local time) over a “possible threat” with a plane. Everyone was called to leave the Capitol in Washington. The police who deal with the US parliament reported minutes later that there is “no threat” anymore. People are now allowed to return to the Capitol.

The Capitol was evacuated “as a precaution”, police said. There were probably not many people present at the time of the evacuation, as there was no meeting of the Senate or House of Representatives.

Details about the type of aircraft that originally caused the threat are lacking. CNN reporter Mike Valerio does report on Twitter, based on two anonymous sources, that it would be a single-engine device. This cannot be verified.

The building was stormed by Trump supporters early last year and has been heavily secured ever since.
