Tennis pro Alexander Zverev survived the first round of the US Open almost effortlessly. Tamara Korpatsch also prevails.
Alexander Zverev confidently reached the second round at the US Open. The tennis Olympic champion defeated the Australian Aleksandar Vukic 6: 4, 6: 4, 6: 4 on Tuesday (29.8.2023) and lived up to his role as favorite in the opening match at the Grand Slam tournament in New York.
After 2:09 hours, the 26-year-old converted his first match point. At 26 degrees and high humidity, Zverev only gave up his serve once in the final phase. In the next round, the twelfth in the world rankings meets the winner of the match between Davis Cup teammate Daniel Altmaier and Constant Lestienne from France.
Korpatsch with solid performance
Tamara Korpatsch from Hamburg also reached the second round. The 75th in the world rankings beat Irina-Camelia Begu from Romania in 83 minutes 6:3, 6:2. She now meets the number 14 seeded Lyudmila Samsonowa from Russia.
Korpatsch played solidly for the most part, but her 33-year-old opponent, who is ranked 43rd in the WTA rankings, made a plethora of unforced errors – 39 in total.
