A duo at the top, Rory McIlroy in third place just one shot behind: The final day of the US Open promises great excitement. The world number one is still within reach.
Rickie Fowler is starting the final day of the US Open in first place and has a good chance of winning his first major tournament.
However, due to a botched putt from close range on the 18th hole, the 34-year-old local hero from California has to share the lead with Wyndham Clark. Fowler hit a 70 round at the Los Angeles Country Club, Clark needed a shot less and is now up to 200 total. For him, too, it would be the first triumph with a major.
McIlroy likes his hunter role
Four-time Major champion Rory McIlroy stayed a shot under par with a round of 69 on Saturday and will start the final day in third place. He’s a stroke behind the leading duo and could win the US Open for the second time since 2011.
“I felt like I played good, smart golf for most of the round”McIlroy said. “It’s nice to be part of the hunt.” He goes on the final loop together with world number one Scottie Scheffler, who is three strokes behind the leader after a round of 68.
Kaymer failed at the cut
Martin Kaymer failed at the cut with two rounds of 73 on Thursday and Friday. The 2014 US Open winner was the only German participant.
