US Open: After crime: Laura Siegemund reaches double semi-finals

Laura Siegemund has reached the semi-finals in the doubles competition of the US Open after a big fight together with her Russian partner Wera Swonarewa.

The 35-year-old from Metzingen and Swonarewa won her 3:12 hour quarter-final match against the duo Wiktoria Asarenka/Beatriz Haddad Maia from Belarus and Brazil 5:7, 7:5, 6:4. The final ticket is against the US-Brazilian team Jennifer Brady and Luisa Stefani.

Memories of 2020

Siegemund and Swonarewa won the tournament in 2020. For Siegemund, including mixed, it was the second and last Grand Slam title so far. Swonarewa, who turns 39 on Thursday, has six triumphs – 19 years ago she won the mixed doubles at the US Open.

Siegemund and Swonarewa bravely fought back against Asarenka and Haddad Maia after losing the first set. Against the strong individual players, they convinced as a team and increasingly took the joy out of their opponents.
