Earlier today, the airspace over Lake Michigan, in the northeastern United States, was briefly closed for “national defense” reasons, the US civil aviation regulator (FAA) announced on Sunday.
“The FAA has temporarily closed part of the airspace over Lake Michigan to support Department of Defense activities. The airspace has reopened,” the regulator said.
The news comes as three flying objects were shot down over the US and Canada in a week. One was a Chinese spy balloon, according to Washington.

On Saturday, the airspace over the US state of Montana was temporarily closed, but a fighter jet sent to verify an “anomaly on the radar” did not see a flying object, according to the military.
