The US economy grew slightly faster than expected in the summer. Gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 2.6 percent in the third quarter, according to an initial estimate by the Department of Commerce on Thursday in Washington. Economists had expected an average growth of 2.4 percent. In the second quarter, economic output had shrunk by 0.6 percent.

US President Joe Biden saw this as proof of the country’s ongoing economic recovery and the resilience of Americans. He described the lowering of prices for those people who live in the USA as the greatest economic challenge. Shortly before the US midterm elections, he again promised to do even more to help. (dpa)
