The US Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry investigating the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol has indicated in new court documents that former President Donald Trump may have broken the law by trying to change the 2020 election results.
Trump refused to accept that he had lost the 2020 presidential election and filed lawsuits in several states to have ballots annulled. He failed to do that.
It’s not immediately clear what evidence there is that Trump acted fraudulently or unlawfully, but the commission of inquiry said it is considering turning over the evidence to the Justice Department.
That would be seen as a symbolic move, but it could also increase the pressure on Attorney General Merrick Garland to officially indict Trump.
