Dave Chappelle appeared at the “Netflix Is A Joke Festival” on May 3, 2022 and was attacked onstage during a performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Clips are available on social media showing someone attacking the 48-year-old comedian. Afterwards, the comedian returned to the stage, apparently unharmed, and joked with Jamie Foxx about the incident.

Jamie Foxx rushed to help
In a video, Chappelle could be seen thanking Foxx. He probably supported him shortly after the attack: “Whenever you’re in trouble, Jamie Foxx will show up with a sheriff’s hat.” Jamie Foxx, on the other hand, was visibly surprised by the incident: “I thought that was part of the show” , Foxx replied. Chappelle joked, “I’ve been doing this for 35 years. I just met a person backstage. I’ve always wanted to do that.”
Foxx replied seriously, “Listen, I just want to say that this man is an absolute genius. We have to make sure we protect him at all times,” Foxx said. “For any comedian that comes here, it means everything. You are a legend and we will not allow anything to happen to you.”
Chappelle faced criticism and protests last year over his Netflix special The Closer being labeled as transphobic. After returning to the stage, the comedian suggested the attack was by a trans man.
