US Coast Guard finds debris in search for Titan

The US Coast Guard has found debris in the search for the submarine Titan, which went missing in the Atlantic Ocean last Monday. That made the agency announced Thursday. The Titan was on an expedition to the wreck of the Titanic with five passengers. According to the Coast Guard, a remote-controlled submarine sent to the ocean floor from a Canadian ship found a “debris field” near the Titanic.

Coast Guard experts are currently analyzing the information. It is still unclear whether these are fragments of the Titan. On Thursday, the search for the submarine reached a critical stage as oxygen supplies for the five people aboard the Titan were most likely running low. There was oxygen on board for about 96 hours for the five occupants.

On Tuesday, a last sign of life from the submarine may have been given. Then the Coast Guard picked up multiple noises during the search for the missing submarine. Those detected sounds were heard in the form of popping noises at thirty minute intervals. The sounds were allegedly detected by sonar buoys set up in the area ‘close to the emergency position’.
