On December 9, 2022, R&B singer SZA released her second album SOS. Since then, she has held number one on the US Billboard Top 200 chart for a total of nine weeks. Already certified platinum, SOS went straight to #1 when it debuted ten weeks ago. His dominance was only interrupted by TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s THE NAME CHAPTER: TEMPTATION (EP), which was released on January 27th.

The 23-song, musically very diverse SOS was awaited with great hopes and has proven to be a worthy successor to CTRL, which was released in 2017. That had made the top 3 upon its release, but failed to climb any higher. In the 296 weeks since then, however, it has not left the list and is now certified triple platinum.

SOS has also been in the German charts since its release. So far, however, it has peaked at number 33. “Kill Bill”, the most successful single on the album, managed to reach number 17.

SZA’s success marks the most weeks an album by a woman has spent at the top of the chart since Adele’s 25, which came out in 2015. The Brit held the position for ten weeks. She was preceded by Taylor Swift, who managed to do this for eleven weeks in 1989. 25, 1989 and SOS are the only albums by women to have spent at least nine weeks atop the album charts in the past decade.
