US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov will meet on Wednesday. White House spokesman Jen Psaki said Friday. The two ministers will then discuss tensions surrounding Ukraine.
Psaki gave no further details about the meeting, which according to US media will take place in Geneva. The US continues to support a diplomatic solution to the conflict, although it is still unclear whether the Russians want to negotiate “seriously”, Psaki said.
Earlier this week, the US State Department had already indicated that it would accept a Russian invitation for a meeting, on the condition that Russia does not invade Ukraine in the meantime. Russia has repeatedly said in recent weeks that it has no plans to attack Ukraine.
