Uruguay’s U20 finally wants to bag the world title

Uruguay’s youth footballers are in the final of a U20 World Cup for the third time after 1997 and 2013 and are aiming for their first title.

The South Americans beat Israel 1-0 (0-0) on Thursday in the first semi-final at the Diego Maradona Stadium in La Plata, Argentina.

The winning goal was scored by Anderson Duarte in the 61st minute. Uruguay will meet the winners of the second semi-final between Italy and South Korea in Sunday’s final.

The World Cup was actually supposed to take place in Indonesia, but was withdrawn from the hosts by the world association FIFA because of politically motivated demands for the Israeli team to be excluded.

The talents of the German Football Association (DFB) had not qualified.
