Urologist Mauro Carrillo | News

Dr, what is your project about and for what purpose did you carry it out?

Medicine is advancing at an increasingly rapid pace. New technologies appear day by day, which leads health professionals to be in constant training. On the other hand, I consider that this, added to the current pace of life, results in depersonalized medicine, focused on an organ or a disease, leaving aside the most important thing: comprehensive patient care. That is to say, sometimes we forget that we are dealing with people who live in a society, with different expectations, plans and concerns, and fundamentally with different levels of understanding and understanding. Additionally, it is very easy to find information online on health topics, which leads to an excess of information (and misinformation) of dubious origin and scientific support.

The aforementioned are the bases for thinking about how to provide quality medical care: constant training and management of new technologies, without leaving aside respect, empathy and comprehensive evaluation of the person. Taking advantage of my passion for teaching, art and audiovisual production is how I started this project.

What is your academic background?

I graduated as a Doctor from the National University of Cuyo in Mendoza. Later I did the Urology residency at the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires, as well as a Fellowship in Retroperitoneal Pathology and Laparoscopic Renal Surgery. Then, I continued my training in HoLEP (Holmium Laser Prostatic Enucleation) at the same institution. I also had the opportunity to rotate in New Zealand, a country where this technique was described. I have participated in multiple conferences and conferences, as well as being able to train in microsurgery techniques, widely used in the treatment of varicocele or vasectomy reversal or vaso-vessel anastomosis.

What information do you provide on your YouTube channel?

In 2021, in Mendoza, I begin the main axis of my informative work: my YouTube channel “Urologist Mauro Carrillo”. Here I provide information with scientific evidence in a didactic and easy-to-understand way, using different audiovisual resources such as stop-motion animation. It was recognized by the Honorable Chamber of Deputies of the Province of Mendoza. Resolution 125/23.

In this way I try to carry out a complete approach to health: from informative work, with continuous professional training and maintaining the basic values in my medical practice, respect and empathy. Although maintaining balance is complex, I believe it is a personal challenge and it is worth taking this path.
