Urbanus puts Bruges church ‘in turmoil’

At 73, the comedian remains tongue-tied with witty humor and catchy songs. The performance took place in the OWLA, a converted church in Bruges. Urbanus: “The guys who organize all my performances are from Bruges and they found that cathedral here that was empty. And okay, today it is full of people. I think the pastor will be pleased that it was full of people here.”

It is striking that today everyone can sing along with the songs, including children. Jan Van Eyken and Manu Huylebroeck, producers. “They know Urbanus. They devour those comics. And they don’t understand that ‘the grandfather’ knows Urbanus. They can’t understand that. Yes, the youth is still with us.”

Urbanus has been on stage for 50 years. And in his early days he already recorded a record in Bruges. Urbanus: “Ever, but I don’t want to talk about that. That man has put me in a terrible bag. And I don’t want to say anything more about that.”
