Upright in bed after heavy explosion: ‘This was not just a hand grenade’

The blow of the heavy explosion at a house on the Goedenrade in Den Bosch still reverberates among local residents. Some of them immediately sat up in bed from shock, they say. Local residents do not believe that the family living in the house was actually targeted.

It was a huge blow, Tuesday night. A policeman says it must have been a heavy explosive: “This was not just a hand grenade”. The blow was even audible at the police station in the center of Den Bosch.

“The chance that they have something to do with something is less than one percent.”

According to a local resident, a family with children aged 6 and 8 lives in the house where the explosion took place. She was shocked by the loud bang. “I sat up in bed from shock.” Local residents are convinced that the attack was a mistake. “The chance that those people have something to do with something is less than one percent.”

One of the local residents took care of the family of four and ensured that they could go to another place. The family is housed in an apartment further down the Maaspoort.

“There are so many heavy fireworks here at night.”

Some other local residents reacted resignedly to the explosion: “I don’t get scared so easily anymore,” says one. Another says: “So often heavy fireworks are set off at night.”

The area was still largely cordoned off Wednesday morning for the police investigation. Several houses in the street were damaged by the impact of the explosion. The residents of six houses have still been evacuated. Residents hope to be able to return home during the day. Whether that is possible is still unclear on Wednesday morning. The area around the house has been cordoned off by police and the investigation is ongoing.
