Google has released a security update that fixes nearly a dozen vulnerabilities, including a serious zero-day vulnerability, Bleeping Computer news.

The security update is coming to Windows, Mac and Linux in the coming days or weeks.

Google won’t share more details about zero-day vulnerabilities until it’s sure they’ve been patched. However, Google describes the vulnerability, named CVR-2022-2856, as very serious. It enables programs and online services to be opened directly through websites.

The vulnerability can be used to bypass protections, buffer overflow errors, directory traversal attacks, and many other evils.

This is already the Fifth major Google patched zero-day vulnerability of this year. Since February, the vulnerability was exploited by North Korean hackers in their phishing campaigns.

In Chrome, automatic updates are enabled by default. However, you should check for updates through Chrome’s settings (the drop-down menu that opens with three dots in the upper right corner of the browser) by choosing About Chrome. The installation of updates requires a restart of Chrome, which is also worth keeping in mind if the browser is constantly running in the background.
