Up to two years in prison for robbery in a home in Veenoord

A 36-year-old man from De Kiel has been sentenced to two years in prison for a robbery in a home on Eikenlaan in Veenoord. One year of this is conditional.

The victim was robbed of a gold chain last August. He was threatened with a weapon and hit so hard in the mouth that his front teeth broke off.

The man from De Kiel received help from a 44-year-old man from Coevorden. He was sentenced to 20 months in prison for his role, of which 10 months were conditional.

The Public Prosecution Service previously demanded almost 2.5 years in prison, of which one and a half years is conditional, for the gross extortion in the house on Eikenlaan. The victim was a guest in the home. He was there to buy speed from the resident. He knew the man from De Kiel, he had not seen the man from Coevorden before.

The victim fled the home after handing over the chain. He tried to jump over a fence several meters high, but broke his leg in several places.

The man from De Kiel was quickly arrested, the co-suspect came into the picture later. Camera images betrayed their presence in the home that evening. They deny the extortion. But the judge finds sufficient evidence for a conviction.

The men only paid attention to their own interests and did not take into account the consequences for the victim, the judge said. The man from Coevorden must also serve a previously imposed suspended prison sentence of four weeks. Both men will be supervised after their prison sentences, for as long as necessary.
