A 46-year-old former resident of Assen has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexually exploiting a woman, multiple assaults and drug trafficking. The man was sentenced to eight years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment.
The sentence is lower because the judge finds fewer criminal offenses proven. The man was acquitted of rape, among other things. The judge believes that a TBS with compulsory treatment is disproportionate in his case. The series of offenses for which he has now been convicted took place in the period from 2019 to 2022 in Assen, where the man lived at the time. He is still in custody, but now has an address in Huizen.
A young woman went to the police in April 2021. She was forced into prostitution by a 35-year-old man from Assen. The 46-year-old is also said to have profited from her sex services for a time. The thirty-year-old was acquitted of sexual exploitation. In the case against the forty-year-old, there was sufficient evidence that the man forced her into prostitution. The young woman had ended up in the drug world and came under the care of the woman in her forties.
When he found out she was making money from sex, he forced her to work for him. This was accompanied by violence. The judge believes that the former Assen resident was only looking for money for his drug addiction. The 35-year-old from Assen was sentenced to 360 days in prison for drug trafficking, of which 105 days were conditional. He was sentenced to twenty months in prison. A 27-year-old woman from Assen was acquitted for her involvement in the rape of another woman. The sentence was 15 months, of which five months were conditional.
The main suspect in this case has been psychologically examined and observed several times in the Pieter Baan Center. He didn’t want to cooperate. A TBS measure was therefore not recommended. The man has a hefty criminal record of 27 pages. The judge believes that a long prison sentence should be added to this.
