MusicThe new tour of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band has caused quite a bit of consternation in recent weeks. Due to Ticketmaster’s system, prices for some tickets ran as high as $5,000. According to Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau, the tickets are fair priced.
Ticketmaster is using . for the Springsteen tour in 2023 dynamic pricing, and previously stated that the prices are “consistent with the standards set for top performers in this industry.” A Ticketmaster spokesperson told The New York Times: “Promoters and artist representatives set the pricing strategy and parameters for all tickets, both dynamic and fixed price.” According to Ticketmaster, only 1.3 percent of all tickets sold for more than $1,000 were due to high demand and limited supply. “If more people want to go to an event than there are tickets available, the prices go up.”
Springsteen’s manager, Jon Landau, also defends the ticket prices. “We have looked carefully at what our colleagues have done before. We’ve opted for prices that are lower than some of the others, and otherwise on par,” Landau told The New York Times.
He also stressed that prices above $1,000 are rare outliers. “The average ticket price is somewhere in the $200 range. I think that, in the current context, is a fair price to see someone who is unanimously regarded as one of the greatest artists of his generation.”
