With a first peak of heat in the month of May and now entering an episode of extreme temperatures even longer, this 2022 It is on the way to becoming one of the hottest years in Spain since records have been kept.
In Catalonia we will also suffer this heat wave and very prominent, especially due to the unusual records that are expected for this date, but its impact on Catalan lands will not be as severe as what can be seen in the southern interior areas of Spain, especially in the Guadalquivir valley.
Even so, the temperatures in two of the provinces of Catalonia will be abnormally high for the season. Of the four levels with which the AEMET quantifies the incidence of the heat wave in a specific region (ranging from level 0 to 3), the province of Lleida is at level 2 -three or four days with temperatures exceeding the thresholds- and the province of Girona would be at Level 1 -one or two days with temperatures exceeding the thresholds-.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SCM) has published a heat alert -high risk- for next Monday for the western counties of Lleida de Segrià, Noguera Y Pla d’Urgell.

Where will it be hotter?
The thermometers will line up throughout Catalonia, but it is in the western areas, interior of the province of Lleida and Tarragona, where the mercury will shoot up to levels more typical of the hottest days that may occur in the months of July or August. It is possible that before the heat wave episode ends, break the 40ºC barrier in inland towns such as Lleida, Alcarràs, Balaguer or Ribera d’Ebre.
The inland catalonia It will be another of the sources where the heat will intensify more with maximums above 30º and, quite possibly, reaching 35ºC.
In the waterfront The high temperatures will also be noticeable, with maximums reaching a ceiling exceeding 30ºC and minimums above 20ºC that will be pure tropical night. Barcelona will be the perfect example of this trend that will cover the Catalan coast from end to end.

In the Pyrenees Y foothillsand the northern regions of Catalonia, despite the more than likely rainfall in the afternoon that will soften the temperatures, the upward trend will continue to be maintained with thermometers close to 25ºC maximum in regional capitals such as Vielha, Puigcerdà and possibly reaching to approach or exceed 30ºC in Ripoll or Olot.
How long will the heat wave last?
