In the near future, Posti may deliver a so-called pirate letter to more than 1,700 Finns, demanding compensation for copyright infringement, reports Company.

Adultia, which is focused on monitoring the copyrights of adult entertainment, is in charge of compensation, and has received a total of 1,737 contact information about IP addresses from DNA.

The case is related to the market court’s decision earlier in the summer, according to which DNA had to hand over the information of more than 1,700 of its customers to an American company producing adult entertainment whose copyrights the customers have violated.

The alleged copyright infringements have occurred on the BitTorrent network, which was developed specifically for file sharing. The mailing list includes Finns who have downloaded porn from the BitTorrent network.

The key feature of a peer-to-peer network is that if one client of the network downloads a file for himself – for example, a movie – others in the network can also watch it. If a consumer downloads copyrighted material for himself, which other members of the peer-to-peer network also receive, then the uploader turns from a consumer into a distributor in violation of the law.

Recipients of the pirate letter, a lawyer interviewed by the Society Jussi Kari advises not to pay if you have not uploaded the material yourself. He reminds that the responsibility for proving guilt rests with the applicant, i.e. Adultia.
