On the board of an electoral campaign, the clash between political parties is a constant. However, we must be on guard against the dangers of fueling this confrontation through the discourse of annihilation of the opposition. This polarizing marketing strategy, instead of encouraging collaborative solutions, sharpens division and erodes the ability to govern.
Governance refers to the government’s competence to exercise power effectively, allowing decision-making and policy implementation in line with the rule of law, the effective functioning of institutions and social well-being. The lack of governance leads to instability, corruption, inefficiency and loss of trust in our government institutions, a reality that seems to be a mirror of our situation in Argentina.
Since the restoration of democracy in 1983, each presidential term has faced challenges due to the pulse of power. It is paradoxical in a political system based on consensus and freedom. Therefore, it is imperative to rethink what political practices are
undermining our democracy.
The political system has a multiplicity of actors with voice and vote. It is vital to recognize the importance of these actors and promote collaboration between them. It is misleading when political discourse suggests the total eradication of the opposition, as this does not reflect the
reality and hinders future negotiation strategies. By presenting the other as an adversary, ideological power is applied in a marketing tactic that serves to divide society, disengage from responsibilities and increase its audience. Governing from this perspective results in hindered policies and decisions, hidden agreements and short-term measures.
Argentine politics needs a radical change, a transition towards consensus and collaboration. Its the only thing
that would limit the power of the “establishment.” The governance and democracy of our country depend on the ability of all political actors to work together and forge a more promising path for Argentina and the people of it.
