“Unsustainable situation”: essential services in poorest countries threatened by higher debt repayments

Debt repayments by the world’s poorest countries have already increased by 35 percent this year to more than 62 billion dollars (about 59 million euros). Higher debt payments mean that there is less money for essentials such as health, infrastructure or education. The situation is even “unsustainable” for dozens of countries, the World Bank said in its annual report on Tuesday.
