Unlimited support for Danish and German companies

The Seeland region and the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein experience weaker economic growth and business development than their neighboring regions. In some areas, such as the construction industry, innovations are required that will be decisive for the digital transformation. The eight partners from Germany and Denmark have therefore made it their goal to promote innovation, technology transfer and business growth in the Fehmarnbelt region with their project. The project starts in April.

Food, Sea Economy and Smart Construction

The partners are focusing on three economic sectors that are characteristic of the regions and promise the greatest potential for growth: food and biotechnology, shipping and marine economy, and smart construction. Michael Herrmann, Professor of Digital Design, contributes his expertise in the third focus area. “The digital upheaval in the construction industry is urgently needed in the areas of planning and production. Alongside agriculture, the construction industry is currently one of the taillights in digitization,” Herrmann states. Productivity in the construction industry has hardly increased in the last 20 years. “In comparison, productivity in the manufacturing industry and in the automotive sector has roughly doubled in the same period,” the engineer continues.

Responding to the needs of companies

Together with the Zeeland Academy of Technology and Economics and Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU), Professor Herrmann will design and develop smart construction solutions in an innovation cooperation with ten small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Specifically, Herrmann and his team will hold workshops on digital planning, design and production for the digital transformation of construction offer. This includes both learning units and excursions for companies. “It is very important to us that we respond directly to the needs of companies with tailor-made content,” concludes Michael Herrmann.
