Unknown man stuffs tomcat into sack and throws him into the sea

By Maren Wittge

This sweet little cat should die. A previously unknown person – according to the police it could only have been his owner – stuffed the cute animal into a sack and threw the bundle into a lake in Rheinsberg (Ostprignitz-Ruppin). The little cat owes his life to an attentive witness. Now he has six left…

The bad incident happened on October 4th. But it wasn’t until Tuesday that the woman decided to report the crime to the police.

At around 7:15 a.m., the 62-year-old was walking in Rheinsberg Castle Park when she observed a man throwing a sack into the water about ten meters from the shore of Lake Grienericksee. The animal abuser fled. But the woman could see that the bag was moving – because the little cat was kicking and fighting for his life!

She quickly decided to take off her jacket and wade into the ice-cold water – at this point it is about 1.50 meters deep. She was able to grab the bag and brought it and the animal to the bank. There she warmed the little guy as best she could. Then the brave rescuer drove to the animal shelter in her car.

Until he has all the vaccinations and is chipped, the three to four month old tomcat will remain in the care of the animal rights activists in Ostprignitz-Ruppin. The association places all of its animals with private helpers. “We don’t have an animal shelter,” says Renate Hütter from the club. Around 80 cats are currently housed in this way and are looking for a new home.

The little tomcat is not alone in his fate; 35 hedgehogs are also currently housed in this way. “They only weigh 250 to 300 grams, but would need to weigh 500 to 600 grams by the end of October to survive the winter. “It’s hardly possible,” says the animal rights activist. But she doesn’t give up, fights for every life.

The club is at its limit! It is financed exclusively through donations. “We urgently need donations of money or food,” says Renate Hütter. Anyone who wants to help can contact the association at [email protected].
