Attack or firecracker madness? A still unknown perpetrator blew up an explosive device in front of Section 18 on Pankstraße on Friday morning. It is still unclear whether the crime was directed against the police.
According to police, the explosion occurred around 1:20 a.m. Witnesses had previously seen a man with an electric scooter depositing an object on the central reservation in front of Pankstraße 29 and fleeing with the scooter. Shortly afterwards there was a deafening detonation with bright flashes of light.
The perpetrator was able to escape unmolested. There was no damage to the police section a few yards away, but the blast left about a square meter of charred green on the median.

Investigations have now shown that the man had detonated a so-called ball bomb. These are commonly used in professional aerial fireworks displays. To deal with them, you need a corresponding certificate of competence in accordance with Section 20 of the Explosives Act.
Police have launched an investigation into causing an explosive device explosion. The state security agency responsible for political crimes is also investigating the incident. It is important to rule out that the ball bomb should not hit the guard.
So far it is not assumed. A police spokeswoman: “The explosive device was not detonated on the building or on the windows.”
