Unjustified area ban: mayor must pay compensation

Youth worker Hassan Lammou from Breda was wrongly imposed an area ban at the end of 2020. This has been determined by the administrative judge of the court in Breda. Mayor Depla has therefore been sentenced to pay a claim for damages of a thousand euros. He must also pay the lawyer’s fees of the youth worker.

In the imposed area ban, according to BN DeStem false accusations. The newspaper had access to a confidential report from the police to the mayor. For example, Lammou is said to have played a role in fireworks riots during the turn of the year 2019-2020 in the Hoge Vucht district of Breda. However, police investigations showed the opposite.

The area ban of several days was overturned by the judge in 2020. The mayor must now pay the youth worker a thousand euros in compensation plus lawyers’ fees. The demand was six thousand euros. Mayor Depla says he is studying the verdict.

A criminal case is still pending against a youth worker about a possible subsidy fraud. It is unclear whether this criminal case will continue.
