With the introduction of the international joint master’s program “Medical Microtechnology“, the Technical University of Lübeck and the University of Lübeck are expanding their previous international range of courses in medical technology. Another partner is the University of Southern Denmark in Sønderborg, Denmark. The special thing about this is that it is the first technical course to be carried out jointly in Germany and Denmark. The three universities developed the course as part of the “Medical Microtechnology” project of the Interreg Germany-Danmark funding program.
At the end of February 2023, the final project conference “Medical Microtechnology”, combined with the “16th Workshop on Low Liquid Flow in Medical Technology”, took place with over 50 participants. The conference also marked the end of the introductory phase of the course. In the lecture part, current aspects of microtechnology in medical technology were presented and discussed by speakers from the medical technology industry in Denmark and Germany.
The internationalization of medical technology courses began in Lübeck in 2002 with the first joint Master’s course in “Biomedical Engineering”, which has accepted between 25 and 30 students from more than 60 countries each year from the start. At the end of February, around 25 graduates from the years 2009 to 2022 met for an alumni meeting to exchange ideas and network with other former students.
The two Lübeck universities offer “Hearing Acoustics and Audiological Technology” as another joint master’s degree in medical technology.
