United Kingdom warns of increasing risk of landmines in Ukraine, Slovakia supplies thirteen fighter jets | Abroad

With temperatures milder and more agricultural work in Ukraine, Britain is warning of landmine risks to civilians. Incidents are reported daily, according to the British Ministry of Defence, which distributes intelligence about the war in Ukraine on a daily basis.

The areas of Kherson, in the south, and Kharkiv, in the east, currently occupied by Russian troops, have been particularly affected, the ministry said. More than 750 civilians have already been killed or injured by mines since the start of the war in February 2022. In one in eight cases, the victim was a child. “It will probably take at least 10 years to clear Ukraine of mines,” the report said.

Since the start of the Russian invasion, the British Ministry of Defense has been providing daily updates on the course of the war. The British government, which relies on information from the intelligence services, says it wants to counter the Russian representation of things. Moscow, on the other hand, accuses London of conducting a disinformation campaign.

Slovak fighter jets

Slovakia has handed over all promised fighter jets to Ukraine. The first shipment of MiG-29 fighter jets arrived at the end of last month, and now the Slovak Ministry of Defense has sent all thirteen aircraft.

Slovakia is the second country that decided to supply fighter jets for the Ukrainian army. Poland also wants to help Kiev in this way in the war against Russia. Warsaw has now delivered eight MiG-29s, with at least another six on the way. The Ukrainian army already uses this type of combat aircraft from the Soviet era and can therefore, in principle, deploy them immediately without additional training.
