Unique concert Normally back on the radio after 40 years

Tonight, Radio Drenthe will broadcast a concert by the Achterhoek band Normal in the Alles Plat program. It concerns a concert that was broadcast forty years ago in the Summer Tour program of Radio Oost, then the regional broadcaster of Overijssel and Gelderland.

Recently found RTV East the recording of the 1982 concert back to tape.

The concert took place in Oldenzaal in Twente. At the time, tens of thousands of people were cheering on the market square. Peter Heideman was one of the visitors.

Nowadays Heideman is a sound engineer at RTV Oost. Thanks to him, the recording is broadcastable for radio. “I found out during editing that I was at the concert as a 17-year-old. I could still remember being in the market square during a concert, but didn’t remember that it was from Normal. I was more myself of the new wavebut now I know that I was there,” he tells RTV Oost.

According to Heideman, they found out about the recording of the concert by accident. “A colleague of mine always had the tape in safekeeping, but couldn’t play it. When he bought a tape recorder and started playing the tape, he found out what was on it. When he looked at the date, it turned out to be the concert in Oldenzaal to go.”

According to the Oldenzaler, he did not need to improve the recordings too much. Because Normal as a band was a well-oiled machine, the basis was good. “Nevertheless, I found it a very nice job to do. As a 17-year-old boy I was in the audience at the time and now it was my honor to get those recordings through the digital audio car wash. I have a very special twist of fate.”

The radio program Alles Plat can be heard on Radio Drenthe tonight between 19:00 and 20:00. In addition to RTV Drenthe, RTV Noord, RTV Oost and Omroep Gelderland also broadcast the program.

The performance in Oldenzaal is still called by fans one of the better live performances ever by Jolink and his men. One of the songs that Normal played on the market square is Niet noar huus toe goan:
