A European Cup injury continues to cause problems for the offensive man

Reaching the Europa League at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise (1-0) on November 3 had to pay dearly for Union midfielder Andras Schäfer (23).

He injured his ankle in the closing stages and had to have an operation before the World Cup break.

More than a month after the medical procedure, the Hungary international still can’t think about regular training. So far he has been absent from the field.

Coach Urs Fischer (56): “Andras is under construction. We hope that he can do more as soon as possible. However, we cannot name a period of time. He tries to take one more step every day.”

Schäfer was practically placed next to Janik Haberer (28) in the attacking central midfield. For the time being, Genki Haraguchi (31) and Morten Thorsby (26) can recommend themselves there for longer periods of use.

Schäfer is currently Union’s only injured regular place candidate. He should be keen to be part of the team again soon.
