After two Bundesliga defeats in a row, 1. FC Union Berlin travels to their Champions League premiere at Real Madrid next Wednesday.
Despite the current sporting problems, national soccer player Robin Gosens encourages his new team for this difficult game. “Awe and fear are exactly the two things we don’t need,” said the 29-year-old on Saturday after the 1:2 (1:2) draw at VfL Wolfsburg.
Gosens was with Inter Milan in the Champions League final against Manchester City (0-1) last season and has significantly more experience at international level than most of his Berlin teammates.
“Two things are very important: Firstly, that you don’t forget to enjoy the game. These are unique experiences, playing on a stage like this at the Bernabeu. Not everyone is allowed to do that,” said the left-back. On the other hand, on Wednesday in Madrid there will be “90 minutes of football in which the small opponent can sometimes hurt the big opponent. There are numerous examples of this in football.”
