Unions Becker on his future: “It’s not just about the money for me”

Winter inquiries confirmed

Although he has been waiting for his next Bundesliga goal since November 2022, Union Berlin’s Sheraldo Becker is one of the winners of the season with the Köpenickers. Over the past year, the 28-year-old has more than tripled his market value, and the Dutchman is currently involved in 15 goals in 33 competitive games in the 2022/23 season. No wonder that many a club has put out feelers to Berlin’s offensive power – Becker has now confirmed that he had inquiries in winter and left his future open again.

The native of Amsterdam’s contract with the Bundesliga, currently third in the table, runs until 2025. In the TM rumor mill, Becker was recently associated in particular with clubs from the English Premier League, including Everton FC and Nottingham Forest. “The next step in the Bundesliga or in another big league would be wonderful,” said the five-time Suriname international in an interview with the Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf” in mid-February. Now he confessed to be “happy” at Union, left the question about his future in an interview with “Picture“-Newspaper but open again: “In winter, clubs approached me. But I said: ‘I’m staying’. And then I’ll stay. That’s the way I am. But I don’t know what summer will bring. I can only say that I feel very comfortable here. It’s not just about the money for me.”

Unions Becker: “Champions League at the Alte Försterei would be crazy”

It is not unlikely that the 28-year-old Becker will make a possible next step with corresponding offers primarily dependent on the sporting perspective. After progressing against his training club Ajax Amsterdam, Union is still playing for the Europa League title and could also qualify for the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history. “That would be great, unique. But we have to look from game to game. Of course we are in a good position at the moment. But our goal remains to play internationally. We have to win the games. In the end we’ll see what comes of it. But the Champions League at the Alte Försterei would be crazy for everyone,” said the right footer when asked about the European “premier class”.

Despite the recent setback caused by the 3-0 defeat at Bayern Munich, the mood in the team is still good and the team is prepared for the upcoming tasks 1. FC Köln, Royale Union Saint Gilloise, VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt: ” Positive. Everyone knows it wasn’t our game what we wanted to play. But when you see what we’ve achieved so far, we can be proud. But it hurts that we didn’t show our true colors against Bayern.”
