For coach Urs Fischer, 1. FC Union Berlin’s entry into the final of the DFB Cup would be more than a surprise. “Sensation comes very close to that,” said the 56-year-old Swiss at a press conference on Easter Monday.
The Irons will play in the semi-finals at RB Leipzig this Wednesday, and next Saturday they will face the current third-placed team in the Bundesliga again. “It’s a highlight game for us,” emphasized Urs Fischer, looking ahead to the cup duel.
The Union coach made it clear that his team could not afford a second half like the 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. “In Leipzig you have to play 90 minutes, like we did in the first half.” In the second 45 minutes, his team was too passive, and his players saw it that way when they spoke together on Monday.
“We need an optimal game to cause a surprise there,” said Fischer, who also wants to train with his team for a possible penalty shoot-out in Leipzig.

So that the players can at least get used to the pressure they would be under in front of around 47,000 spectators in the Red Bull Arena, the test penalty shoot-out will also be about something, Fischer announced and gave a few examples: “There are many things that go into the team treasury. A small meal for in between, a pizza sometimes. Cleaning up is also an option.”
