At Union, the new shirt numbers for the pros are emerging. New signing Jordan Siebatcheu wears the very high 38. For now. The numbers don’t have to be definitive until the first competitive game of the season, i.e. on August 1st in the cup duel in Chemnitz.
Until then, Siebatcheu could wait for one or the other number to become free due to the departure of a colleague. Bad luck: His favorite 17 is already occupied by Kevin Behrens.
At Union there is a salad of numbers.
Sven Michel switched from 10 to 11. His (favorite) number already in Siegen, at Gladbach II, Cottbus and Paderborn.
So far, no newcomer has dared to reach the 10. She wore it until winter 2022 Max Kruse.
Also free: the 2, 20 and 22, which have not been awarded since the departure of record scorer Karim Benyamina.
But the numbers also reveal a lot.
That the 20 is available might indicate that Bastian Oczipka returns to Union. The left-back, currently without a contract, wore 20 last season. New signing Jamie Leweling has the highest number at 40. Paul Seguin took over the 14 from Taiwo Awoniyi; Tim Starke the 21 by Grischa Prömel.
The fans have a lot to do before they can find their way through the jumble of numbers.
