Union fears ‘troubled months’ at Philips due to reorganization

The CNV union fears “troubled months” at Philips, which announced a major reorganization on Monday that will see some 4,000 jobs disappear worldwide. “Especially because it is not clear where exactly the jobs will disappear,” CNV negotiator Arjan Huizinga responds

According to the trade unionist, the employees and management of the various branches are allowed to find out for themselves. He indicates that not only will four hundred permanent jobs be lost in the Netherlands, the contracts of about four hundred temporary workers and temporary workers will also not be renewed.

“The blows are expected to fall mainly in the middle layer and in the management,” says Huizinga. According to him, the employees in the Philips factories in Drachten and Best therefore do not have to worry immediately.

‘Bad situation’
The CNV member states that a good social plan was previously agreed at Philips. Still, he says it is a “bad situation” for workers who have to leave as well as for those who stay.

Huizinga warns that the already high workload at Philips could become even greater in the future. “Chairs on which people sit who are now just working are disappearing. That work will not disappear, so that will soon have to be done by fewer people.”

Apnea Devices
Roy Jakobs, the new CEO of the group, goes into an interview the ED addresses the red numbers and the underlying issues, including the apnea devices. For example, the new leader believes that action should have been taken earlier in the case of the apnea devices as a result of the complaints. Philips also denies that the problems with the apnea devices have to do with the disappearance of the jobs.
