Union Berlin coach Urs Fischer wants to give as little importance as possible to the quick reunion with his former star player Max Kruse.
“I think enough has been told and said on the subject. I’m not going to comment on that. It is important to accept the task of Wolfsburg, and Max is part of the way of playing,” said Fischer on Thursday.
The Irons will play in the Bundesliga at VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky). Kruse surprisingly switched from Union to the VW Club at the end of January. Most recently, the professional had also been critical of his last few months in Berlin.
According to Union Berlin, there is no contractual agreement that the 33-year-old is not allowed to play against his old club shortly after the transfer. Such clauses are “not even a mental option” for managing director Oliver Ruhnert, said press spokesman Christian Arbeit on Thursday.

Without Kruse, Union had lost the first three games without scoring. After the following 3:1 against Mainz 05, the Berliners are seventh in the table but back on course towards the European Cup. The Irons also beat FC St. Pauli 2-1 on Tuesday and made it into the cup semi-finals.
Nevertheless, 40 points remain the first goal for Fischer and thus staying up in the league is practically certain. This could be achieved with a win in Wolfsburg. “It looks good, we’re on the right track,” said Fischer.
