The success of Union Berlin is also the success of the managers at the club. The club president has a lot of confidence in coaches and managers – but doesn’t believe in farewells anytime soon.
Union Berlin’s club president Dirk Zingler trusts his manager Oliver Ruhnert also the biggest jobs in German football. However, Zingler does not believe that the 51-year-old successful manager will leave soon.
“Of course” Ruhnert could also work at Bayern, the 58-year-old told SportBild. “But I’m not worried that we’ll lose him to another club. Because we all enjoy what we do.”
The club from the capital is doing brilliantly in the current season and is in second place in the table. Ruhnert and coach Urs Fischer have played an enormous part in this. Fischer is “one of the best coaches in German football,” said Zingler.
“Why would he want to change careers? I wouldn’t get that idea. Even if we are aware that at some point his time with us will end, which also applies to Oliver Ruhnert or other managers in the club.
Zingler added that Ruhnert “maybe” will eventually succeed Rudi Völler as sports director at the German Football Association. “But they’re at Union at the moment – and I’m firmly convinced that we’ll all work together for a long time to come, because the way we do it is rare in German football and it’s special.”
