Union Berlin’s Sheraldo Becker on changes in the Bundesliga or abroad

Ajax is ‘different story’

Sheraldo Becker is the best scorer in the squad this season at 1. FC Union Berlin with eight goals and seven assists in all competitions. How long the “iron” can still plan with the 28-year-old is uncertain given the constant rumors of a change. Towards the end of the winter transfer period, Becker has been linked with Everton, although a deal didn’t materialize, the attacker does not appear to be averse to a transfer in general, at least.

“The next step in the Bundesliga or in another big league would be wonderful,” said Becker in an interview with the Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf‘ (quoted via ‘Voetbalzone“). The offensive power moved to Berlin on a free transfer in 2019, where it has since increased its market value from 1.25 to currently 15 million euros, which is the highest value within the team. In the current season alone, there is a plus of 8 million euros. Becker’s contract is valid until 2025 after it was extended by two more years last June.

In October, Becker said he was a man with ambitions and that Union Berlin knew this. About the amount of a possible fee, he stated that this would not be the highest because he was “not the youngest anymore”. While he said at the time that the Eredivisie dream was “over” and not realistic because only Ajax Amsterdam or PSV Eindhoven could pay for it, he has now changed his mind. If Ajax called him, “that’s a different story,” he stressed. And further: “I grew up there. What Ajax stands for and what the club means to me will never change.”

Becker was born in Amsterdam and trained at Ajax, he made it into the first team through all junior years, but was not used there. In the interview at the time, however, he emphasized that he would consider returning to the Netherlands, “but that’s not the most important thing”. Next Thursday (6.45 p.m.) the direct clash with his former club is on the program in the round of 16 of the Europa League.
