Holstein Kiel and FC St. Pauli have also lodged an objection against the verdict of the DFB sports court in the Bundesliga scandal game between Union Berlin and VfL Bochum. The German Football Association announced this in response to a dpa request. The two clubs joined the Berliners who are challenging the sports court’s ruling before the DFB Federal Court. The game on December 14, 2024, which originally ended 1-1, was scored 2-0 for Bochum.
Kiel and St. Pauli would be indirectly affected in the relegation battle if bottom-placed Bochum were awarded all three points at the green table instead of the one point from the Union game. The DFB sports court made this judgment on January 9th. Bochum saw itself weakened after goalkeeper Patrick Drewes was hit in the head by a lighter from the Berlin fan block in stoppage time and had to be substituted and replaced by field player Philipp Hofmann because VfL’s substitution contingent had been exhausted.
Holstein Kiel and FC St. Pauli have not yet been involved in the process. The DFB announced that the DFB’s legal and procedural rules provide for such a possibility in paragraph 26.2, provided that those affected “demonstrate a direct legitimate interest in the decision”.

The DFB Federal Court decides whether the appeal process will be held orally or in writing. The hearing could take place during February. Within the DFB, the Federal Court is the final authority. An appeal going beyond this would be possible before the Permanent Neutral Arbitration Court for Associations and Corporations.
