“The wall must disappear”. This was shouted by the Union fans when their team had a free kick in favor and the opponents defended themselves by deploying the barrier. Union Berlin was then still an East German team: the club had ended up on the eastern side of the wall after the separation of the city in 1961. The demolition of the opposing barrier politically paraphrased the fall of the wall, which came in 1989.
