Union Berlin: Ruhnert criticizes DFB – “Too many amateurs at work”

“We do our thing”

Managing Director Oliver Ruhnert from 1. FC Union Berlin can also imagine working for the German Football Association. When asked in an interview with the “world on Sunday“Whether a job at the DFB would appeal to him, Ruhnert replied: “Of course I can imagine that. It would even be fun for me to tackle certain things, because the DFB has no decision-makers.” The 51-year-old added: “If we had it here at Union like the DFB, we would still be talking about getting Max Kruse today or not.”

The manager of the capital club, which was surprisingly strong this season, praised DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, but criticized the association in principle. “As far as the DFB is concerned, there are too many amateurs at work for me,” said Ruhnert. “The DFB has initiated processes regarding the training of youngsters and coaches, which are a thorn in my side. From my point of view, they are completely crazy and are going in the wrong direction.”

The 51-year-old sees the basis for success at Union in sticking to the club’s own values. “We do our thing,” said Ruhnert, emphasizing that little has changed in the fundamentals of the work in recent years. “Overall, however, we have grown as a club and have adapted to the changed conditions,” says Ruhnert, who has repeatedly managed to score with good transfers in the past.
