Manager Oliver Ruhnert from 1. FC Union Berlin expressed his confidence in coach Urs Fischer despite the negative series of eight defeats, but also stressed the need for success. “Urs Fischer has so many contributions to this club. We are absolutely ready to take this path together, he knows that too,” said Ruhnert on the TV channel “Sky” after the 0:3 (0:1) against VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday. But Fischer is also “someone who says, we are in professional sport and professional sport is a results sport, results have to be achieved at some point.”
The 57-year-old Swiss ruled out resigning immediately after the game. “Why should I throw down? The team has done too well for that in the last few games. “I think the coach’s words are still reaching the team,” he said on “Sky”. Fischer has been the coach in Berlin since 2018 and during this time he led the team to the Bundesliga and last season even to the Champions League.
The coach also emphasized the need to turn the club around. “I don’t think you can lose indefinitely. In the end, the table is crucial. At the moment it’s important for me to accept the situation as it is,” he said. Ruhnert explained that the coach was the one “who suffers the most from this situation.” He now wants to look for solutions together with everyone in the club.
