Obligation to buy applies after promotion
Former youth international Leon Dajaku will remain at AFC Sunderland through the season. After the rise of the “Black Cats”, a purchase obligation negotiated with 1.FC Union Berlin as part of the loan agreement took effect. Sunderland confirmed their whereabouts in a message on the club’s website. The “Iron” are said to receive a seven-figure fee from England for the 21-year-old striker. After staying up in the league, the transfer fee paid to FC Bayern Munich in 2021 increased to EUR 1.5 million.
Dajaku was originally loaned out to Sunderland for match practice. “We consider this step to be expedient in its further development,” said Union Managing Director Oliver Ruhnert last year. The homegrown talent of VfB Stuttgart received this: In 28 competitive games for Sunderland he scored four goals and prepared four goals. The deal has met with approval in the TM community among Berlin fans. “Nice that you can close the construction site here immediately and even get the money at least for the purchase at the time,” wrote the user “sverre”.

Ron-Thorben Hoffmann, who was also loaned to Sunderland by FC Bayern, has not been signed on. The 23-year-old goalkeeper, for whom the traditional club had a purchase option that he does not exercise, is returning to Munich for the time being, where his contract is valid until 2023. Hoffman was a regular until the beginning of February, but lost his place after taking over from coach Alex Neil as a result of a corona infection
