Bundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin celebrated a clear victory in a test match against Rapid Vienna.
After the Champions League participant had announced the explosive commitment of Hertha’s record purchase Lucas Tousart, the Irons defeated the Austrian capital team 3-0 (0-0). With two goals, Kevin Behrens played a key role in the second victory of coach Urs Fischer’s team in preparation for their first season in the European master class.
Behrens scored in the 53rd and 74th minute in front of over 17,000 spectators in the An der Alten Försterei stadium. David Fofana (56th), on loan from Chelsea, was also successful. Fischer already made a lot of changes at half-time, and in the second half of the game his team showed a very convincing performance against last season’s fourth-placed team in the Austrian league.
Until the 60th minute and the reassuring 2-0 lead, the Swiss coach left his captain Christopher Trimmel on the pitch. The 36-year-old right-back switched from Rapid Vienna to Union in the summer and still has very good connections to his former club.
Test against Kiel on Saturday
For the Union it was a good warm-up after the defeat at FC Zalaegerszegi in Hungary. Previously there had been a win at FSV Luckenwalde. After the final whistle, coach Fischer high-fived his assistants with a big smile.
After the successful home debut, there will be a test match against Holstein Kiel in preparation for the new season next Saturday, before they also play Atalanta Bergamo at home on August 5th. Then Tousart should also be there, who once switched from Olympique Lyon to Hertha BSC for 25 million.
